This is my analysis of 'Skinny Genes' by Eliza Doolittle as it is our song choice. This song had two videos made one in 2009 and one in 2010. The original 2009 video can not be found on YouTube but is on DailyMotion however the 2012 video is on YouTube and has 4,246,92 views.
The video from 2009 used a lot of obvious edits. Right at the beginning there is a hand on the table that moves but you can see there is no arm under the table. Also her name is in letters that move to the beat of the music and then face the camera to show the name of the artist. She keeps eye contact with the camera especially during the shot when she is in a tunnel and even as she twirls she bends her neck to remain the eye contact. It went back to the shot of the table but it had Eliza in 2D as a card cut out which gets scrunched up by a hand and unravelled in a different outfit. For me personally I think the video is slowish as it doesn't have a lot going on during the video. As it seems to be in mainly 3 locations with 2 different coloured backgrounds. As the video isn't on YouTube I've embed a link to the video.

Whereas the video from 2010 has a more party theme which I enjoyed watching a lot more. Even though it is based in one location, there are shots from different rooms in the house (bedroom, bathroom, living room). There are also a lot of different angles in each of these locations, extreme close ups of Eliza but also wide shots to show the party going on. They don't have the same obvious edits as in the first video but with the atmosphere and the variety of different shots I don't think this video needed it. I like that she has played with the lyrics in the song (eggs with hands on them) as it adds to the fun element of the video as from the lyrics you know there is a meaning behind them. There is continuity editing as you see her do the same gestures from one shot into another which I really like. Here is the video as it's on YouTube.
