RESEACH: How the music industry uses social networking sites

Social networking sites sometimes play a part in the marketing of the music video, if its done the right way. Some artists can be established by these networking sites, such as YouTube and previously Myspace; these are where these new artists post their videos/songs and try to get their target audiences' attention into liking and listening to the song. Even with already famous artists, music videos are posted everyday to these social networking sites to increase their popularity so they can gain more fans, who therefore go and buy it online/buy the cd in stores.

An example is Lily Allen; she used the site Myspace to establish a fan base. Allen used all the functions of Myspace to deliver content to all her fans; her blog had  become one of the most infamous in the global music industry, which later on gave her a nomination in the  2008 NME awards for the category of Best Band Blog. The blog had many things to it, that helped her communicate with her fans. It had explanantions of her controversial antics; wardrobe malfunctions; and wars with Perez Hilton etc. She also had posted things such as BTS footage of from album cover shoots; photos of music video shoots; orginal covers of popular songs; videos and pictures from her everyday life. So the blog wasn't just about her music, but her way of expressing herself.
